IRCON is building five MSME technology centres at Nagpur, Bilaspur, Coimbatore, Jhansi and Ambala
It is the equipment and not the buildings which is important. IRCON International has won the contracts for engineering, procurement and construction for the five Ministry of MSME Technology Centres, and these contracts have been published on the central procurement portal between 9 July and 3 September 2026. Each of the contracts covers two years' worth of maintenance during the defect liability period, so that the contractor remains liable for the asset after completion.
Three additional packages finish the equipping of the centres, and these are the more interesting ones: additive manufacturing facilities for Saran, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Rohtas, Ranchi and Angul; laboratory equipment relating to artificial intelligence and the internet of things for six districts; and augmented and virtual reality laboratory equipment for Ranchi and Gwalior. All three were delivered within fifteen days in May 2026.
The fact that this buyer makes purchases in this way is that the building and the capability are separate purchases which take place several months apart, and the equipment is obtained through multi-site packages rather than being acquired one site at a time; when a supplier submits a bid for the fitting-out they are bidding on all six districts simultaneously under one specification.
The precise amounts of the awards do not appear on the central portal and so it is not possible to tell how big any of them is, nor would it be correct to suppose so. The only thing that is known is the shape, and this shape is deliberate. The districts are what matter. Saran, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Rohtas, Angul and Gwalior are barely referred to in the Indian industrial coverage. Three packages of equipment have been dispatched within a period of two weeks to seven tier two and tier three districts, which are being provided with 3D printing, AI, IoT and AR/VR facilities.
The parties who should act are the distributors of machine tools, the suppliers of additive manufacturing and metrology equipment, and the system integrators who arrange for laboratory equipment. In the case of the regional civil contractors, the work concerning five of the technology centre buildings with two-year maintenance periods does not require a national balance sheet.
Don't put in bids for the equipment packages as though they were single site bids. As each package covers six districts under one specification, work out the cost of logistics and the commissioning travel before considering the hardware. Log on toetenders.gov.in
